At the Knights of Columbus Relay meet in La Crosse on Saturday, April 14, athletes from Arcadia and West Salem made their mark on the Honor Roll. Arcadia finished second to West Salem in the Division 2 part of the meet in which West Salem won all four relay events.
Ninth grader Maya Vazquez of Arcadia won the 100m [12.72] by edging out 2005 WIAA D3 100m champion Kelly Giese of Brookwood. Giese posted a 12.78 at the Knights of Columbus meet. Vazquez also won the 200m with a time of 26.94.
Then Vazquez scored the 'Hat Trick' of the dash events by winning the 400m in 59.44 barely beating sophomore Lauren Unser of West Salem who had a time of 59.48. Vasquez's time in the 400m tied the Arcadia school record.
The performances by Vazquez made a significant dent in the Honor Roll lists for week 5. The 400m time was the best time posted in that event in the first five weeks of the Honor Roll.
To round out her performances Vazquez leaped an Arcadia school record 18' 00.00 in the long jump. Another Arcadia athlete who made her mark on the week 5 Honor Roll was sophomore Erika Suchla who set a school record with a triple jump of 36' 01.00 at the Knights of Columbus Meet.
