Athens senior Sunni Massop is pictured above in the preliminaries of the D3 100m HH event at La Crosse on Friday, June 2, 2006. The 2006 D3 100m HH event was won by Ali Gillberg a graduated senior from Drummond. Massop took second in the finals. In the preliminary event shown above are [L-R] Amanda Cichosz [12, Tri-County], Jennie Church [graduated, Florence], Massop, and Maria Drout [graduated, Eau Claire Regis].

At Stratford on Thursday night Massop won four events. In the hurdle events she had times of 16.17 and 48.99 to win the 100m HH and 300m LH. Then in the field events she had throws of 37' 03.00 and 132' 06 in the shot and discus to finish first. On April 19 at the Marathon Invitational Massop had a throw of 137' 00 in the discus. Her big night at Stratford helped Athens to a third place finish behind meet champion Wausau Newman and runnerup host school Stratford.

In the 2006 State Meet Massop finished 2nd in the D3 100m HH and 2nd in the discus behind 2006 D3 shot put champion Hannah Gronning.


Triple Winners

Seniors Erin Bornbach [L] of Stratford and Laura Palmer [R] of Pittsville each won three events at the Stratford Invitational.


Bornbach [pictured at the 2007 TFA Indoor Championships at UW-Whitewater] won the 100m, 200m and was a member of Stratford's winning 4x4 relay team. At the 2006 WIAA State Meet Bornbach was a member of the Stratford 4x4 team which finished third in that D3 event.


Palmer won the 800m, 1600m and was a member of Pittsville's winning 4x8 relay team. Palmer is pictured at the 2006 WIAA State Meet in which she finished second to graduated Stratford runner Dani Owen in the 800m and 1600m D3 events. Palmer received the Scholar - Athlete Award from the WIAA.
