Coulee Conference Highlights Arcadia Vs. West Salem Rivalry

Saturday, May 10, 2008: Coulee Conference Meet At Black River Falls. Results


West Salem oupointed Arcadia 193.5 to 150 to win the Coulee Conference Meet held at Black River Falls. The Coulee Conference consists of Arcadia, Black River Falls, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, Onalaska Luther, Westby, West Salem, and Viroqua. At the 2007 WIAA State Meet West Salem and Brown Deer tied for the D2 Championship.

This years Coulee meet had several races in which Arcadia sophomore Maya Vazquez and West Salem junior Lauren Unser posted outstanding performances. In the 100m dash Vazquez won [12.68, 123.52 prelims] while Unser finished second [12.95, 12.81 prelims]. This was just a warmup as both athletes gave track fans a meet to remember. Vazquez ran a blistering 56.95 in the 400m dash with Unser close behind in 58.28. Maya Vazquez's 56.95 moved her to #2 on the Week 9 Honor Roll in the 400m dash. In the 200m dash Vazquez again finished first [25.61, 25.42 prelims] with Unser coming in second in 26.39. Vazquez was not finished however as she jumped 18' 02 to win the long jump event.

West Salem's Courtney Oldenburg who is also a junior won the 800m and 1600m events and finsihed second to teammate Kelsey Novak a ninth grader in the 3200m run. Another West Salem junior Mary Kurisch won both the throwing events.
