The 100m HH finals at the Viking Invitational

The start [L-R]: Jackie Saley [Verona, Amanda Belden [Parker], Elizabeth Van Tuinen [Waukesha West], Sammy Marrier [Merrill], Cassie Niles [ Parker], Niki Parker [Verona], Shelby Demos [Parker], Chelsey Glatz [Parker], and Caylie O'Neil [Verona]. At the first hurdle Niles, Parker and Demos take the early lead. Niles finished in third [16.5, HHT] while Verona's Nikki Parker and Janesville Parker's Shelby Demos had a close finish with Parker edging out Demo's. Parker had a HHT time of 15.8 while Demos was given a 15.8+.



Below: The finals of the 100m dash [L-R]: Danielle Carrigan [Waukesha West], Carly Fehler [Oak Creek], Melissa Espeseth [Merrill], Felecia Carlson [Beloit Memorial], and Emily Duffy [Waukesha West]. Carlson a sophomore won with a time of 12.8 while Espeseth a junior came in second [12.9]. Duffy was third, Carrigan who won the pole vault [10'00] in rainy conditions was fourth. Fehler was 5th.



Teams from Beloit Memorial, Franklin, Janesville Parker, Merrill, Oak Creek, Verona, Waukesha West and Westosha Central competed at the tenth annual Viking Invitational meet. Waukesha West won by scoring 162 1/3 points while Verona came in second with 145 1/2 points.



Waukesha West senior Stephanie Grant had a big night winning the 200m and 400m dash events. Grant a State Meet veteran is pictured on the left in the 200m dash event. Coming off the turn Grant was shouder to shoulder with Merrill's Melissa Espeseth.


Grant won the 200m in 26.4 with 100m winner Felicia Carlson from Beloit in second [26.9] and Espeseth in third [27.3].


On the right Grant is shown in the final 70m of the 400m event as she sprinted away from the pack. She won in 1:00.3 while her sister Lauren finished in second [1:02.3].




Jenna Rozek [above left] a senior from Franklin posted a 48.0 [47.93 HHT] in winning the 300m LH event. Above center: Brianne Monahan [Beloit Memorial]. Above right:Kristin Heckel [Waukesha West].


Although not heavy the steady rain made conditions a challenge. Distance runners seem to thrive in the light rain. Verona's Emma Spoon [left] won the 3200m event in 11:52.0. Honor Roll discus throwers Erica Moen [Janesville Parker, above center] and Amanda Spencer [Verona, abaove right] are pictured in the discus ring. Spencer won the event [117' 10], while Oak Creek's Marguerik Wellsein was second [110' 08] and Moen third [105' 03].

Relay Action

Beloit Memorial won the 4x1 relay event. The team consisting of Jessica Tripplet, Camile Bittorf, Laurisha Rosario, and Felicia Carlson tied the record of 50.8 set by Waukesha West in 2006.

Verona's 4x4 relay team consisting of Eva Greenwalt, Ali Schultz, Ali Tackett, and Megan McGowan won with a time of 4:17.0. Greenwalt is pictured [below left] on the left as she runs the lead leg. Greenwalt hands off to Schultz [below right].
