A sophomore showed up at Brookfield Central as a first time track athlete at the beginning of the 2008 season. That sophomore who had been a soccer player had never run a race in the hurdles. After trying the long jump and triple jump in practice during the first few days Brookfield Central hurdle coach Danna Bowe encouraged that sophomore to try the hurdles. For the first three meets of the 2008 season that sophomore ran in the JV part of the meet. Beginning in the fourth meet sophomore Katelyn Malcore ran as a varsity athlete. Her progression was nothing sort of amazing. Being a gymnast and a Lancerette helped Malcore progress quickly with the technique and footwork needed in her triple jump and hurdle events. At the 2008 State Meet she was 5th in the D1 TJ, 5th in the 100m HH, and 3rd in the 300m LH events. Not bad for a first year track athlete. At West Allis Central on Wednesday night she set records in the 55m HH [8.67] and the 55m LH events and finished second in the TJ [34' 09.00] won by Ally Felker of Brookfield East [34' 09.75].
