Lake Michigan Invite

Twenty-three teams from Wisconsin and Illinois competed at Carthage on Friday afternoon. Crystal Lake's Lake Central High School took first with 104.5 points. Bradlley Tech of Milwaukee was third with 64 points. Illinois began their indoor season January 21. The Illinois Indoor Classic was held in Bloomington [home of Illinois Wesleyan University] on Friday and Saturday, March 26-27.

The Milwaukee Tech 4x2 wasted no time in delivering the message that their hard work in the off-season and preseason will pay dividends during the 2009 season. Evanston Township [IL] High School ran a 1:45.40 which was good for second at the Lake Michigan Invite.
The Trojans from Tech posted a 1:44.43 for first. Jasmyn Hudgins led off for Tech. Hudgins is pictured above right handing off to Sharonda York. York handed off to Dezerae Bryant [above left]. Bryant ran a blistering third leg to give the lead to anchor Symona Gregory [left].
In the 55m & 200m dash Dezerae Bryant was first [7.11, 25.30], Jasmyn Hudgins third [7.36], and Symona Gregory fourth [7.38]. Bryant moved to the top of the HR 55m & 200m lists. |

Mequon Homestead's 4x8 relay team ran to a 10:03.92 clocking in the 4x8 relay. This time was good for third place in the Lake Michigan Invite but moved the Highlanders to the top of the Honor Roll in the 4x8 relay event.
Lake Central [IL, 9:41.58] and Warren Township [IL, 9:51.21] came in first and second.
Homestead's relay team consisted of
- leadoff runner Caity Bobber [above left],
- second runner Carrie Rice [above center]
- third runner Lauren Holtz [above right],
- and anchor Abby Kanyer [left].

The Honor Roll leader in the 55 HH is pictured [right] winning the HH event at the Lake Michigan Invite. Homestead sophomore Marissa Savitch was aggressive in attacking the hurdles and took first with a time of 8.52. Savitch was a State Meet qualifier [above] in 2008.
Milwaukee Tech senior Sharonda York [left] was second in 8.93. Milwaukee Vincent's Sherice Hewitte [maroon jersey on right] was third [9.03]. |

Amber Jackson [not pictured] of Evanston Township took first in the 400m dash [57.27]. Samara White [above left] was fourth in 1:00.84, Megan Paul of Carmel Catholic [IL] was second [1:00.04], Tahje Whittley of Bradley Tech was third in 1:00.18. Keasli Bjork [above right] of Homestead was eighth in 1:03.71.

Megan Plenus pf Lake Central [above right] was first in the 800m [2:22.09]. Lauren Holtz of Homestead [above center and left] was third [2:24.87]. Sarah Ball [far left] of Kenosha Tremper was fourth [2:25.47]. Tiffany Matthews [Bradley Tech, above left] ran a 2:29.02.
