Athletes Reaching Their Potential Despite Hardships |

Wheelchair athletes made their presence known this season. The WIAA is considering adding wheelchair events to meets for the 2010 season. Lydia Sprain [above] from Dodgeville-Mineral Point is shown in the 55m dash event at the 2009 W/TFA meet. Verona ninth grader Luke Russell is a wheelchair athlete who was instrumental in getting the WIAA to consider wheelchair events for 2010. [Go to Dennis Semrau story in the Madison Capital Times.] Russell raced against his friend Devon Radloff from Janesville Craig in the Big '8' 2009 Conference Meet in an exhibition 1600m race. Radloff and Russell play on the Mad City Wheelchair Basketball Team during the winter season. |
