The Midas Touch
Tasha Allen [Milwaukee North] continued her amazing senior season by winning three Gold Medals at the Senior All-Star Spotlight Meet held at UW-Platteville. She won the 100m in 11.93, set a record in winning the 200m and was the anchor on the record setting 4x1 relay team from Team Wisconsin. Allen is pictured above against sprinters from Illinois and Iowa in the 100m dash event. Also in the 100m Milwaukee Bradley Technical sprinter Symona Gregory took second in 12.27 and Whitefish Bay's Becca Schmidt was third in 12.40. Allen is shown winning the 200m event [left] in which she set a new Spotlight Record with a time of 23.94. This broke the old record [24.47] set by Briana Lynn from Illinois in 2004.

800m run: Sara Stoakes [Iowa, 2nd from left] set a new Spotlight Record with a time of 2:11.82 breaking Team Wisconsin's Micaela Courtney's record of 2:13.96 set in 2002. At the Iowa 1A 2009 State Championships Stoakes won four events [400m, 800m, 1500m, and the 400m hurdles] to single-handily win the 1A State Championship for North Tama High School [Traer, IA]. Runners above L-R: Megan Stats [3rd, 2:18.25, Stevens Point], Stoakes, Natalie Jozik [Wausau Newman Catholic], Team Illinois runner Regina George [3rd, 2:14.73], and Brianna Mathes from Team Iowa.

Last Week Brea Tinney [2nd from the left] from Osceola won the D2 1600m and 3200m Championships at the WIAA State Meet. Using a strategy similar to what she used in La Crosse Tinney hung back and then took charge in the last lap. Her winning time of 4:57.71 set a new Spotlight Meet Record breaking Ashley Beutler's old record of 4:58.03 set in 2008. Other Team Wisconsin runners pictured are Kiah Ehrke [Stoughton, far left], Elise Sigg [Pecatonica-Argyle, 4th from the right], and Kayla Wagner [Baldwin-Woodville, 2nd from right]. Wagner was 3rd in 5:00.60 while Ehrke came in 4th in 5:16.96. Lindsay Flanagan [Team Illinois, the first Team Illinois runner on the left] was second in 4:59.15.

400m Hurdles [outside lanes to inside lanes]: Ashley Maxon [Random Lake, 3rd, 1:06.56], Danielle Allen [Oshkosh North], Samantha Berg [Kettle Moraine, 2nd in 1:06.31], winner Sarah Yaeger from Team Iowa [1:05.10] , Colby West [Stevens Point]. The 400m hurdles are a regular event in high school meets in Iowa.

Team Iowa's record in the 4x100 set in 2000 [48.21] was broken as Team Wisconsin's 4x100 posted a time of 46.72.

Team Wisconsin's 4x8 Relay Team not only won the 4x8 but they broke the record of 9:20.54 set in 2007 by Team Iowa. Team Wisconsin's record breaking time was 9:19.64. Relay members were [L-R]: Elise Sigg [Pecatonica Argyle], Brea Tinney [Osceola], McKenzie Kelly [New Richmond], and Brittany Frederick [Lake Geneva Badger].

Long jump L-R: La Crosse Logan's Emily Worden was third with a jump of 17' 09. Aileen Lemanski from Florence was fourth [17' 05.50] while Team Illinois jumper Kawanna Brooks was first with a jump of 19' 03.00. Brooks set a new Spotlight Meet record breaking the old record of 18' 11.75 set by Ryan Hendrick of Team Illinois in 2005.
