Nelson-Daniels Classic: Track D1

Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Kachel Field House on the campus of UW-Whitewater. Results





Cary-Grove [Illinois] outpointed Arrowhead 65-59 to win the 25 large school section of the Nelson - Daniels Classic.


In the 55m dash event Sussex Hamilton's Danielle Barbian [above right] won with a time of 7.36.. Milwaukee Rufus King sprinter Chanel Franklin [above second from right] was second, Felicia Carlson [not pictured] from Beloit came in third.


Robyn Kozlowski [above second from left] was fourth, Lake Geneva Badger's Megan Mulligan [above left] was fifth, while Janesville Parker's Kelsey Jones [right] was sixth. Watertown's Jenna Schwartz is pictured to the right [blue jersey]. Schwartz played a big part in Watertown's win in the 4x2 relay.


In the 55m HH event Watertown's Madeline Emme posted a 8.77 to beat Janesville Parker hurdler Shelby Demos [9.02]. Emme [below right, blue jersey] and Demos [below left, green jersey] are pictured in the preliminaries.




The 1600m running event was held in three sections. Section 1 runners are pictured on the left and section two runners on the right. Section three featured two outstanding runners, one from Wisconsin the other from Niles West High School. Niles West is located in a suburb of Chicago nestled between the O'Hare airport and Evanston.

Megumi Hoshi [below, #2] holds the Nelson-Daniels Classic large school 800m meet record [2:21.84, 2007]. Despite a serious injury in cross country during the 2008 season she has made a remarkable comeback 1 | 2.


Junior Gabby Levac [above] the 2008 D1 cross country champion from Hartland Arrowhead was matched against Hoshi in a race that turned out to be a meet highlight. Hoshi set a torrid pace but Levac stayed on Hoshi's shoulder despite several surges by Hoshi.

With two laps to go Levac made her move and finished in first with a time of 5:15.36. Hoshi was second in 5:16.34. Congratulations are in order for both athletes who treated the large crowd to a great race.




The Watertown 4x2 relay team raced to the top of the Honor Roll list in the 4x2 by finishing first with a time of 1:50.88 [Note-Holmen set a meet record at the Northern Badger Classic Meet at UW-Stout with an identical time to Watertown's performance]. The winning team [L-R]: Alyssa Harmes, Jenna Schwartz, Jodi Bellas, and anchor Maddie Emme.



The Wolverines of Waukesha West have a new cast of runners in their 4x8 relay team. The young group below posted a time of 10:22.89 to finish first. The team L-R: Felicia Gesior, Jessica Grabow, Nicole Martens, and Kelsey Yaeger.



4x8 Relay
