Aileen Lemanski And Rachel Melum Set D3 Records


Florence senior Aileen Lemanski made it four D3 LJ Championships in a row by setting a new record. She went out in grand style when she broke her 2008 record by 1/4 of an inch with a jump of 18' 06.50.

Iola-Scandinavia junior Rachel Melum is pictured above clearing 5' 02 on her way to matching the D3 HJ record set by Kate Juedes of Clear Lake in 1998. Melum cleared 5' 06, 5' 07, and then after missing twice at 5' 08 she cleared 5' 08 and then made 5' 09 as she wrote her performance into the WIAA Record Book.

Above L-R: Senior Stephanie Peters from Bangor won the Bronze Medal in the D3 PV with a height of 10' 03. D3 PV. Repeat Champion senior Kelsey Temanson from Stratford won the Gold with a height of 10' 06. Ninth grader Faryn Wirkus from Edgar also jumped 10' 06 and placed second.

Because of the Saturday weather the PV competition was moved indoors. In the words of one parent who attended the meet '...it was miserable! I was basically soaked and chilled to the bone.' Despite the terrible conditions Wisconsin's young athletes arose to the occasion and competed very well on Saturday.

Scott Thomson the editor of the Whitehall Times took the picture on the left of repeat D3 TJ Champion Bria Halama a sophomore from Independence - Gilmanton. At the time of the jump pictured on the left the rain was driving down with the temperatures around 50 degrees. Despite those conditions Halama won the Gold Medal with a jump of 36' 06.

Dynamic Duo From Arcadia Win The Horizontal Jumps


Senior Erika Suchla [above left] from Arcadia won the D3 TJ with a distance of 37' 00.50. Teammate Maya Vazquez [above right] a junior won the LJ Gold for the third straight year with a distance of 18' 04.75.


Ashland senior Lindsay Wiebe [above left] made her last high school meet memorable by winning the D2 HJ Championship with a height of 5' 06. Arcadia jumps coach Nicole Hunger confers with D2 LJ Champion Maya Vazquez. Vazquez won the competition on her second to last jump when she traveled 18' 04.75 to edge out second place finisher Carlye Schuh of Xavier.

Demos, Flucke, Smith, And Waldvogel Win Jump Titles


Senior Shalesa Smith [left] was the runnerup to 2008 Champion Julie Hebert of Greenfield in last years State Meet. This year Smith jumped 38' 06.50 in the TJ to win the Gold Medal.


Wausau West junior Jessica Waldvogel [right] was the D1 LJ champion with a jump of 18' 01.50

Versatile TJ, HJ, and SP athlete Shavanna Talbert [above] finished 2nd in the TJ [37' 10]. Talbert is from Fond du Lac.

Krissy Day [above left] a senior from Wisconsin Lutheran was 4th in the LJ [17' 07.25] while sophomore Brianna Bower from Stoughton was 3rd in the LJ [17' 08].


Melissa Flucke repeated as PV champion with a height of 11' 03. Flucke an Ashwaubenon senior finished her high school vault career which included four trips to the State Meet.


As a sophomore she was third and last year and this season she finished as the D1 Pole Vault Champion. Teammate Brianna Baeten finished third with a height of 10' 09 while another Jaguar Sarah Finer was a State Meet qualifier in the pole vault.

Above: Shelby Demos a Janesville Parker senior repeated as the D1 HJ Champion with a height of 5' 06. Weather delayed the completion of the high jump event. All athletes were hampered by the cold and constant rains on Saturday.
