Dezerea Bryant Sets 200m Age Group Record

Competing for the Mustangs Track Club coached by Ray Hale Milwaukee Bradley Technical junior Dezerea Bryant set a Northern National Record in the AAU Young Womens age group by blazing to a 24.58 clocking at Illinois Wesleyan University in the 2010 AAU Northern Indoor National Championships. Other Wisconsin athletes also performed well in this AAU Meet giving notice that the 2010 Wisconsin High School Season could serve up some interesting highlights.



Dezerea Bryant is pictured at the WIAA 2009 State Meet [L] where she and graduated senior Tasha Allen from Milwaukee North set the Wisconsin State 100m Dash Record by both recording an 11.76 in the preliminaries. Bryant finished second to Allen in the D1 200m dash event at the '09 State Meet. At Illinois Wesleyan Bryant placed second in the 55m dash with a 7.03 clocking. Tiffani McReynolds of Kansas won the 55m [6.98]. Mustangs: 1 | 2.
Chidera Obasih [R] a junior from Brookfield Central who competes for the Joe Sims Track Club of Milwaukee also performed well at Illinois Wesleyan. Obasih who is the State Record holder in the 200m dash [23.85] finished 4th in the 200m [25.60] and recorded a 7.24 in the 55m dash to take fifth place in that event.

Kiara Giles [L] a senior at Milwaukee King had a good day placing second [58.80] behind National Record Setting Kianna Ruff [57.01] of St Louis in the 400m dash in the Young women's age group. Giles was also third in the 800m run [2:31.83]. Giles competes with the Joe Sims TC.


Roni Thompson [far left] and Laura McGinnis [left and above] are seniors who performed well in the jumps at Illinois Wesleyan. In the long jump Thompson jumped 16' 03.50 while McGinnis recorded a 16' 07.00. McGinnis who competed unattached from Cross Plains, Wisconsin, and Thompson who is a member of the Joe Sims Track Club from Milwaukee took the top two spots in the triple jump. McGinnis won with a distance of 37' 03.00 which was only 1 1/2 inches short of the National Record in the Young Womens TJ [37' 04.50 set by Jessica Jeremiah of Milwaukee in 2005].

Sherice Hewett [L] a senior from Milwaukee Vincent competing for the Joe Sims Track Club placed 5th [8.77] in the Young womens 55m HH and 7th in the TJ [34' 03.75]. Tahje Whittley [above] a junior at Bradley Technical represented the Mustangs Track Club in the young womens 55m Dash [8th, 7.36] and 200m [6th, 25.74] events.

Katie Brownson [above] a senior from Florence competed at the USA TF Midwest Meet held at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri on February 14, 2010. Brownson recorded a 1:04.61 in the 400m dash at Columbia.

Also competing for the Mustangs at Illinois Wesleyan was Danielle Barbian a junior from Sussex Hamilton [7.34 in the 55m, 26.88 in the 200m]. At the 2009 State Meet Barbian anchored the Sussex Hamilton 4x1 relay team to a third place finish in the D1 finals. Barbian is pictured below taking the baton from Hamilton sophomore Ashley Holicek in the Brookfield East 2009 D1 Sectional. Joe Sims Track Club Sets Young Womens 4x400 Record

In the Young Women's 4x400 the Joe Sims Track Club set a National Northern record with a clocking of 4:02.45. Relay members were: Chidera Obasih [Brookfield Central]. Sherice Hewitt [Milwaukee Vincent], CherRay Dixon [Cedarburg], and anchor Kiara Giles [Milwaukee Rufus King] ran on the record setting relay.
