The 'Honor Roll' is not in the business of making predictions. Rather the features and photographs show past accomplishmnets. And as many athletes have learned the hard way past accomplishments should be put aside at the State Meet. Athletes and teams come ready to compete and it takes extraordinary efforts to become a State Champion. This feature looks at a talented group of D2 athletes who have the potential to win medals at La Crosse. The athletes in this feature were listed in the D2 HR for the 200m dash event as of Week 10.
Above L-R: Madison Edgewood senior Eileen Gehring, Clinton senior Laura Popanz, Gehring, and the defending D2 200m champion junior Deisha Smith-Jenkins from Dominican.

Above: For the second year in a row a rain did its best to put a damper on the 2010 State Finals. However the athletes responded well. In the finals of the 200m dash [above] Deisha Smith-Jenkins from Dominican sprinted to a Gold Medal with a winning time of 25.10. She was followed by Maya Vazquez [Arcadia, graduated], Ariel Kinlow [Brown Deer], Raquel Ebbe [Nekoosa], Amanda Obot [Omro], and Eileen Gehring [Madison Edgewood].

Special note [no symphathy needed, but a few facts on challenges in the last week]: [1] Complete failure of the hard drive with all my data. Unlike coaches who lose an athlete to an injury or illness I did have backups but it took time to get those re-installed. [2] A bug in my sorting program. Some D2 results were wrong. [3] Not enough hours in a day to complete all that is needed to give a comprehensive report. [4] Not having a fax at home means that some meets were not covered. [5] Getting eMaill asking why a geographical area was not represented on the Honor Roll. Please be specific, better yet-send real data, links to data, or a file with results.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU to all the coaches, parents, and track fans who have sent results so that the Honor Roll is a true reflection of accomplishiments for a given week. Finally, thank you to those track fans who suffer through my mis-spells and typos. Your patience is saintly and I greatly appreciate the 'gentle' reminders to "Get It Right!". DF, May 20, 2011
