Seniors Announce Plans For 2011-12

Tuesday, February 2 to August 1, 2011 National Signing Day ~ National Letter Of Intent

This feature is an ongoing project. Coaches and parents are encouraged to send information to Wisconsin Track Online so that we can share the news about an athletes plans for their future college experience.

According to the NCAA Eligibility Center which oversees the operations of the National Letter of Intent program the National Letter of Intent has many advantages to both prospective student-athletes and participating educational institutions:
  • Once a National Letter of Intent is signed, prospective student-athletes are no longer subject to further recruiting contacts and calls.
  • Student-athletes are assured of an athletics scholarship for one full academic year.
  • By emphasizing a commitment to an educational institution, not particular coaches or teams, the program focuses on a prospective student-athlete's educational objectives.

Most colleges that offer NCAA Division I and II athletic scholarships use the NLI. Ivy League institutions and the service academies (Army, Navy, etc.) participate in Division I athletics but offer no athletic scholarships. No Division III schools, NAIA schools, junior colleges or preparatory schools are members of the NLI Program. However, many NAIA institutions and junior colleges do use a Letter of Intent, implemented either by the national association, their individual conferences, or even individual schools. When athletes announce that they will attend a Division III or NAIA school for athletics Wisconsin Track Online would also like to include that information in the Seniors Announce Plans feature. Ariel Kinlow of Brown Deer High School signed a letter of intent to attend Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Above right: Ariel with her parents Darrell and Loretta.

Left: Kinlow was third in the D2 100m and 200m dash events at the 2010 State Meet in La Crosse. She was also the anchor of the Falcon's 4x2 relay team which won the Silver Medal at La Crosse.

Chidera Obasih - Brookfield Central Lancers


Brookfield Central senior Chidera Obasih is pictured above center signing her National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Minnesota. Chidera's sister Chisom and father Kem are also shown above.
All-Division State Record Holder in the 400m dash Chidera Obasih has signed with the University of Minnesota. The Brookfield Central senior also is the defending D1 LJ Gold Medal winner from 2010.

As a freshman and sophomore Obasih excelled in the 100m and 200m setting a State Record in the 200m at the 2009 State Meet. Last season she added the Long Jump and 400m Gold Medals to her list of accomplishments in track.

Three longtime friends are pictured above. All three attended Hillside Elementary school in Brookfield. Now they are seniors at Brookfield Central High School. Hannah Trasser - Brookfield Central Lancers


Hannah Trasser who has made her mark as a distance runner at Brookfield Central has signed with the University of Minnesota. Trasser is shown above at the 2008 State Meet helping the Lancers gain a 5th place finish in the 4x8 relay event.

In 2008 Trasser was also 6th in the 800m run. At La Crosse in 2009 Trasser was 6th in the D1 1600m and helped Cenrtral to a 3rd place finish in the 4x8 relay.

At La Crosse in 2010 Trasser [left] was 5th in the D1 1600m race.


Marissa Savitch - Homestead Highlanders

Kelly Flynn - Greendale Martin Luther Spartans


Greendale Martin Luther dash and jumps athlete Kelly Flynn plans on attending the University of Minnesota and competing in track and field. Flynn qualified for the 2010 State Meet in the D2 LJ and relay events.


Liz Berkholtz - Sun Prairie Cardinals


Liz Berkholtz from Sun Prairie has committed to run XC and Track and Field at the University of Minnesota. She also just recently placed 6th in last fall's Divison 1 Cross Country Championships [photo from Midwest Invitational, 2010]. Berkholtz is shown above left signing her National Letter Of Intent. 2008: Ran a leg of the 1600m Relay team that placed 13th.

2009: Ran a 5:08.37 and placed 7th in the 1600m Run and was also the Runner- Up State champion in the 3200m Run in 11:01.28 - earned All-State honors.

2010: Ran a 5:06.49 and placed 8th in the 1600m Run.
