2011 WIAA Track And Field Championships: HURDLE

The HH and LH hurdle races were classic races. Top athletes performing all-out gave track fans two races to remember. In the HH race both Elexis Fuller-Stewart from Milwaukee Bradley Technical and Marissa Savitch from Homestead smashed the the State Record of 14.52 set by Savitch in the 2010 State Meet. Fuller-Stewart won the Gold Medal by .09 seconds over Savitch. Savitch broke her old record with a 13.98 while Fuller-Stewart posted a 13.89 to estabilsh a new State Record in the 100m HH event. The 300m LH was decided by .01 seconds. In a rematch of a race from 2010 Michelle Garner from Greenfield edged out Maya Carter from Racine Case 44.05 to 44.06. New champions emerged in D2 while in D3 Tessa Thurs helped her team the Edgar Wildcats to a second championship by sweeping the hurdle events.

No races are easy but the 300m LH does its best to tax an athletes body and mind. Thames posted a 44.29 while Garner [44.05] and Carter [44.06] were in a 'photo-finish.'


Monroe senior Jaclyn Ditter won the D2 100m HH Gold Medal.


Sturgeon Bay junior Amelia Campbell [above left] was 2nd in the HH while Kaitlyn Hastings a junior from Catholic Memorial was third.

Junior Tessa Thurs [above left] from D3 State Team Champion Edgar won the HH and LH events. She is shown with senior Alyssa Arentz one of three Cashton hurdlers in the 100m HH finals. Arentz finished 3rd.
