Dave Wedeward [above] has spent 46 years at the Janesville Gazette. For the last 39 years he has been sports editior of Janesville's daily paper. The Edgerton native has been a long time promoter of high school sports and his columns and paper have given exposure to all schools and sports in the Gazette area. From football to track and field Wedeward has made first class coverage of high school athletes a priority. His columns and the papers weekly features have given exposure to the positive accomplishments of athletes in all sports in the Southern Wisconsin area. Wedeward's last day as sports editor will be November 1.
The Gazette is now a morning paper. Wedeward comes to work in the early afternoon, takes a break for dinner, then returns to the Gazette until the next days edition is ready for press. Coaches, athletes, and sports fans will miss the passion that Dave Wedeward had for their sports. Whether covering the Badgers at the Rose Bowl or making sure that all conference and tournament track and field results were published Wedeward attacked his job with a passion that benefited all communities in the surrounding Janesville area. Track and field was never neglected in coverage under Wedeward's leadership. The Wisconsin Girls Track and Field Honor Roll salutes Dave Wedeward for an outstanding career. We all wish him the best in his retirement.
