Above left: UW-Wisconsin thrower Chelsey Card [Plainfield Carlin HS, IL] began her redshirt junior year in grand fashion by winning the SP and indoor discus events [56' 04.00, 185' 05]. Both throws would have been school records if Card was not being redshirted.

Above left: Assistant Badger coach Dave Astrauskas [Black coat] who is the throws coach is shown adjusting the laser measuring device for the throws. Bob Pederson [Red Wisconsin sweatshirt] operated the device during throws. Pederson was a longtime teacher, assistant basketball and assistant track coach at Janesville Craig HS. Pederson also officiates throws at the WIAA State Meet. WIAA Assistant Director Marcy Thurwachter who is in charge of softball and track and field for the WIAA was at the Badger Open conferencing with officials who will work the 2014 State Meet.

Center: The weight is a 20lb shot put enclosed in a case with a throwing handle grip. Above right: Joe Frontier head girls coach at Memorial High School and founder and director of the Madison Throws Club judged throws. A laser beam is centered in the target area of the spotting pole and then the distance is immediately displayed on a score board.


Above left and center: Jenna Ladsten is a former Blair-Taylor athlete and D3 2013 LJ Champion who is now a UW freshman competed unattached. Above right: Sara Grange is a former Grafton athlete who is now a freshman at Madsion. She competed unattached.

Right: Head Wisconsin distance coach Jim Stinzi looks on as mile runners Sara Disanza [UW Freshman from High Point Regional HS in Wantage, NJ] and Gabrielle Anzalone [UW Junior from Grand Blanc HS, MI] take the lead in the mile race. Disanza won the race by .21 seconds over Anzalone. Both runners competed unattached.
