Elkhorn Quadrangular

Thursday, March 30, 2006 at Elkhorn High School

Elkhorn hosted an outdoor quadrangular with Janesville Craig, Union Grove and Racine Lutheran. The weather in Wisconsin during a typical spring makes scheduling meets tough. However, schools without field houses are anxious to compete. On Thursday the temperature was 78 degrees and skies were sunny...... in Panama Beach, Florida. In Elkhorn it was almost 60 with overcast skies holding the threat of rain. On the right is Elkhorn junior Markie Schmidt running the second leg of the 4X8 relay. Schmidt finished third in the D2 800m at the 2005 WIAA State Track and Field Meet. Schmidt also ran on Elkhorns D2 championship 4X8 relay team.

All four members of that relay team return. Kelli Grundman [senior], Carrisa Sommers [sophomore] and Ashley Kelhnhofer [sophomore] were the other members of the 2005 Elkhorn 4x8 relay team. Below : Maddie Schricker, senior from Janesville Craig, had an amazing 4th leg coming from behind to edge out Elkhorn at the finish line. The picture below was taken 30 meters from the finish line.

An outdoor meet presents challenges related to the weather. The temperature, the wind, rain and different surfaces make adjustments an important part of the competition. In the two pictures above Nikki Stillman of Janesville Craig is shown on the approach and landing of the triple jump. Above: Elkhorn long jumper.

Far left: Craig sophomore Nicollette Scieszinski who qualified for the D1 400m at the 2005 WIAA State Track and Field Meet won the 400m by edging out ninth grader [left] Maggie Stevens of Racine Lutheran.
