Preseason Practice At Rosholt

Monday, March 13, 2006 at Rosholt High School

Rosholt High School has about 256 students and is the defending State Champion in Division 3. The school has two full size gyms to use for indoor practices of sports teams and an outstanding outdoor track facility. Mike Trzebiatowski [above right] is the head coach while his brother Eugene [above left] coaches the distance runners. Mike and Eugene have coached together for twenty years. Indoor drills: [Clockwise from top left] The 'claw' drill. Sue Trzebiatowski and Krista Basinksi run sprints while warming up for the shot put. Coach Hilgers demonstrates SP techniques. Footwork drills.

On March 13 most schools north of Stevens Point cancelled practices because of winter storm conditions. Rosholt is about 15 miles east of Stevens Point. Although conditions were very cold and snow was falling the worst of the storm was north of Rosholt. Part of the practice was held outside. Above, distance runners preparing for outdoor work. Below: Hurdlers and sprinters finish their workout outside.

Postscript: Eighty-two days after this feature was produced Rosholt won the D3 State Championship.

On the top left is pictured Hanna Field on Monday, March 13. Later in the spring the track and field facility will look like the picture on the top right. In 1991 the Rosholt School District budgeted 10% of the money needed to build a new track facility. The remaining funds were raised by donors in the community. In 2004 with a start donation in memory of Justin Franke, the Back the Track Committee II was organized in order to make the track an eight lane facility. In addition, meets are run using 'FAT' timing. During large meets sprints can be run on both sides of the track using 'FAT' timing. Below is a t-shirt from last years State Championsip team. About 10% of the girls at Rosholt High School participate in track.
