History In The Making

After winning the 400m event for the fourth year in a row Joanna Schultz of Holmen had a chance to make history. She had to win the 200m to become the first girl athlete to win two events at four straight State Chamipionships. With 70 meters to go that accomplishment was in doubt. Junior Akaila Cabell [L] of Racine Case and ninth grader Kennaye Lewis [R] of Milwaukee Vincent were shoulder to shoulder with the three time D1 200m defending champion. At the 50m mark Schultz found another gear and pulled ahead to win with a time of 24.94. Cabell finished in second in 25.06 while Lewis was third in 25.20. Track fans not only saw a great 200m race but witnessed history as Schultz finished her four year high school career with championships in each year in the 200m and 400m events.
