Vandenberg Exits With Repeat While Seidel Enters With Double Win


Niagara senior Jamie Vandenberg [left] repeated as the D3 800m State Champion with a time of 2:14.63. Also shown on the left are Ana Breit [6th, 2:19.95] a sophomore from Stevens Point Pacelli and Fennimore ninth grader [partially hidden] Breland Prochaska who was ninth.

If track fans wanted to know who the 'new kid on the block was' all they had to do was to look at the D3 1600m and 3200m races. Ninth grader Molly Seidel from University Lake School won both races. She posted a 5:02.52 in the 16k and a 10:49.98 in the 32k to Gold Medal in those events. Sarah McMahon a sophomore from Colfax was 4th in the 1600m and 6th in the 3200m races. Alexis Mikaelian a senior had a full schedule at the 2009 State Meet. She finished 3rd in the 1600m [5:07.41] and 2nd in the 3200m [11:14.35] to close out a great running career at The Prairie School.


Pittsville junior Carli Kronstedt [left] was second in the D3 1600m [5:03.78] and third in the 3200m races. Kronstedt is pictured above in the homestretch of the 16K as she and Molly Seidel push their minds and bodies to the extreme in the race to the finish. Seidel established a new D3 3200m record by posting a 10:49.98. The old record was 10:52.23 set by Margaret Davis of Brookwood in 1981


Stewart Wins 800m And Tinney Doubles In 1600m And 3200m


Kelly Stewart [Left-photograph by John Reed] a sophomore from Amery was first in the D2 800m. She won with a time of 2:14.36.

On the right is second place finisher [2:15.38] senior Courtney Oldenburg from West Salem. Oldenburg was the 2008 D2 800m Champion. Oldenburg also was second in the 2009 1600m race [5:02.62].

Below left: 1600m [5:01.69] and 3200m [10:46.51] Gold Medal winner Brea Tinney a senior from Osceola.

Below right L-R: 1600m runners Samantha Bluske [Sr, Pardeeville,5th, 5:04.99], Allie Woodward [Soph, GB Notre Dame, 6th, 5:05.09], Shannon Nemetz [Jr, Denmark, 4th, 5:03.36], and Kayla Wagner [Sr, Baldwin-Woodville, 3rd, 5:02.75].


In the 3200m Kayla Wagner from Balwin-Woodville ran a 10:46.87 which was only .36 seconds behind winner Brea Tinney's time of 10:46.51. Samantha Bluske of Pardeeville was third in 11:01.30 while Green Bay Notre Dame's Allie Woodward came in fourth [11:04.69].

Katie Hill, Becca Selner, And Kenzie Vicker Are Gold Medal Winners


Junior Lizzie Wendt from Germantown and senior Katie Hill from Onalaska are shown in an amazing finish to the D1 800m run. Hill a first year track athlete won in 2:14.28 while Wendt was second in 2:14.46.


Above: Lost in the excitement of the D1 800m photo-finish was the outstanding race that Steph Stock from Green Bay Preble ran in the 800m. She made her final race for the Hornets a memorable event when she finished third with a time of 2:14.84.

Ashwaubenon senior Becca Selner [above left] posted a 5:06.24 to win the D1 Gold medal in the 1600m run. She also finished fifth in the 3200m.

Below: Plymouth ninth grader Haley Johnson was second in the D1 1600m [5:06.77]. New Richmond senior McKenzie Kelly was third in the 1600m [5:07.17]. Sophomore Kenzie Vicker from Whitefish Bay won the D1 3200m race in 10:55.86 [picture from 1600m race on Friday].

Not pictured: Liz Berkholtz [Sun Prairie sophomore], Katelyn Stine [Wausau East ninth grader], and Jenna McMiller [Waukesha North sophomore] finished 2-4 in the 3200m.
