Coach Michlig met with the boys and girls team prior to practice in a conference room at Newman. Practice plans and goals were discussed prior to the team going to the gym for warmups.

After warmups Coach Tinjum took the distance runners [below] outside for a session at the 'Hills Course.' This demanding workout is a longtime Newman favorite! After their outside workout the distance athletes came inside to stretch. |

The weather in Wausau was very cold and the track was still covered by snow. The track team divided up into groups [distance, throws, and sprints] and performed a variety of station drills in the gym that gave little down time for the athletes.
The sprinters divided up into three groups [17 minutes each] which included starts, form running on the pole vault pits and circuit training [Touching the basketball net, step-ups, ball against the wall, push up postition, big ball crunches, side lunges, squats against the wall, jump rope, and jumps over a bench].
Volunteer coach Stacy Holmberg who is a former Newman track athlete monitored the circuit training [3rd person from the right below] while Coach Bandoch worked with the form running. |
