All In The Family
Kailee's uncle Richard started something that is still ongoing in the Kamps family. Richard Kamps started a trend that is still growing in the Belmont community. He threw the shot put and discus. His brother David, Kailee's father, wanted to emultate his brother in the throws. David was Belmont's 1st state champion in any sport in 1984 in the discus. He threw both the shot put and discus and currently holds the Belmont discus record of 165' 11" which he set in 1984. This broke his older brothers school record. David also threw in college and is a 4 time All-American in the NCAA in the discus. He was inducted into the University of Wisconsin Platteville Athletic Hall of Fame in October 2009.
David's nephew, Jake Kamps, is the current shot put record holder in Belmont with a distance of 53' 3". He also was a state champion in the D3 discus in 2006 and placed second in the SP that year at La Crosse.
Kailee's older sister, Kassi, also threw shot put and discus for Belmont. Earning three trips to state and placing 2nd in the shot put her junior year and 7th in the discus. Unfortunately she suffered a severe knee injury the last basketball game of her senior year and put off surgery to try to throw her senior year. Amazingly enough she was still able to qualify for state in both events. She placed 4th in the shot put and 10th in the discus (throwing from a power stance with no spin becuase of the injury) with distances in the low 100's. She was recruited to throw at Winona State University where she is a sophomore on the track team. Currently Kassi is throwing the shot put, hammer, and javalin for the Warrior's.
Kailee's sister, Keegan, an 8th grader at Belmont threw the discus last year, earning the top throw in the state as a 7th grader. This year she is picking up the shot put, too. Her season hasn't started yet.
Jordyn (Kailee's cousin - Richard's daughter), is also throwing the discus. She is a ninth grader. She had one of the top ten times in the D3 100m dash as of April 8. Jordyn and Kailee are close friends on and off the track.
