In AAU track and field competition the nine age divisions are determined by year of birth. Athletes of all ages 6 to 18 competed at the Shirk Center on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University. Families played a big part in the competition as mothers and fathers and friends of the athletes helped in coaching and encouraging the competitors.

The young athlete on the right from Mullica Hills, New Jersey, was a National Champion last year. Over the past year she has grown 4 inches. A friend of the family from Seattle traveled to the meet and was giving her coaching pointers prior to her event.
