2011 WIAA Track And Field Championships: RELAY

At the 2009 State Meet Milwaukee King set a D1 and All-Division record of 47.74 in the 4x1 relay. In the preliminaries on Friday, June 3, 2011, the Milwaukee Bradley Technical Trojans broke that record by posting a time of 46.64. Not a team to rest on its laurels the Bradley Tech 4x1 quartet heated up an already warm day on Saturday, June 4 by rocketing to a 46.02 time setting a new record.

Angelina Howard makes the last handoff to anchor Dezerea Bryant in Saturday's 4x1 D1 finals. The Tech team set a record in their last appearance as a 4x1 quartet. Seniors Tahje Whittley, Bryant and Howard have helped write a legacy of track accomplishments at Bradley Tech. Elexis Fuller-Stewart Silver Medal winner in the 200m and winner of the 100m HH is a junior and will return for the 2012 season.





Claire Knaus [above left] is a sophomore who led off the Rockets Gold Medal winning 4x8. The next three legs of the 4x8 were a family affair as Jennifer Parker [9, above right], Jessica Parker [9, below left], and anchor Alison Parker [10, below right] posted a 9:08.64 to take first. Arrowhead's Taylor McDowell [11, below left] helped Arrowhead take second place.





Junior Jess Rupnow from Sussex Hamilton is shown on the left anchoring the Chargers 4x2 to a win in 1:40.63. Relay teammembers for Hamilton were:

Paterson is a senior but the other three runners are juniors and will return to carry on Hamilton's strong tradition in the relays.

Platteville repeated as D2 4x8 Champion in 9:23.21. Caitilin Bartels ran the first lag [above left]. Second leg runner Laura Donovan is shown above right. Julia Lawinger [below left] ran the third leg handing off to anchor Tricia Serres [below right].





Junior Kaitlyn Hastings [blue] from Catholic Memorial held off a furious sprint by Osceola's ninth grade anchor Aimee Rice-Strand [green] to post a 1:45.35 - 1:45.50 win over second place Osceola in the 4x2.

In the 4x1 D2 relay race Rice Lake [above left] was edged out by Xavier [above right] 49.72 to 49.73. In the final exchange zone above Rice Lake's anchor Claire Poethke [blue] gets the baton from Tess Rademacher. Xavier anchor Kelsey Worachek takes the baton from Paige Van Asten [above right].

Kiel recorded a 3:59.22 to win the D2 4x4. Maxine Becker Kiel's leadoff runner is shown above left. Second runner was Rosemary Mueller [above right]. The Raiders third runner was Mikayla Preissner [above left] who handed off to anchor Kristin Mathes [below right].


Oshkosh Lourdes won the D3 4x8. Abby Moore a ninth grader [above left] ran leg 1 for the Knights. Other runners for Lourdes were [below L-R]:Katie Bando, Natalie Buyarski, and anchor Clare McDonald.





4x2 D3 teams above L-R:Alma [6th], Drummond [4th], Whitehall [2nd], champion Edgar, Manitowoc Lutheran [3rd], and Newman Catholic [5th]. The Edgar team consisted of Jena Heidmann, Emily Dittman, Holly Denfield, and anchor Kira Dittman.




In the 4x1 D3 relay Edgar held off Brookfield Academy and Cashton to win the Gold in 49.94. Record setting pole vaulter Faryn Wirkus [above right] took time off from her event to run the third leg of the Wildcats 4x1. She is shown handing off to anchor Kira Dittman. Edgar repeated as D3 4x4 Champions. Jena Heidmann [far right above] opened with the first leg followed by [below L-R]: Holly Denfield, Tessa Thurs, and anchor Elizabeth Pospyhalla. All of Edgar's 4x4 runners will return for the 2012 season.
