Before each session the UW-La Crosse ROTC Honor Guard presented the colors before the National Anthem was sung. Arland Peterson [above right] has worked in track and field either as a coach or as an official for 54 years. This was his last State Meet although he will still work local events. He coached previously at Durand, Kickapoo-La Farge, and La Crosse Logan.

On Friday the Onalaska High School Choral Group [above] sang the National Anthem. On Saturday the National Anthem was sung by a group [below] from La Crosse Logan High School.

| Senior Bria Halama [above and right] joined a select group of athletes who have won State Titles in the same event four years in a row. Not only that Halamna broke a long standing D3 record in the Triple Jump set by Deb Hafenstein of Waterloo in 1985. Hafenstein jumped 37' 03 in '85. In 2010 Halama missed by one inch of tying that record. The University of Minnesota bound Halama left no doubt this year as she broke the record by over a foot. Halama set the record on her first jump in finals. The photos above and to the right are of her last jump in finals.
Edgar athlete Tessa Thurs was second in the D3 TJ with a distance of 37' 07.50 while Port Edward's senior Sabrina Morgan [below] was third [35' 06.75].

Raquel Ebbe [left] made it a sweep of the D2 horizontal jumps with a first place finish in the TJ [37' 03.00]. Another junior Tatiana Rice [above] from Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau took second with a jump of 37' 01.00.

Kristin Heckel a Waukesha West senior surprised in the triple jump by winning that event with a jump of 37' 09.25. A year ago Heckel was a member of the Wolverines 4x4 which qualified 5th for the D1 finals. Bradley Tech had set a D1 and State Record in the 4x4 during preliminaries. However Waukesha West with top performances by each runner and a great anchor lap by Lauren Grant won the 4x4 finals. This year Heckel was 'ranked' 10th on the State Meet qualifying lists for the TJ. However Heckel's performance in the TJ competition earned her a Gold Medal and showcased her competitive spirit. |

Heckel is relatively new to the TJ event. She did not TJ at her conference meet or Regionals in 2010. A veteran track observer pointed out to the Honor Roll website that her PR prior to regionals was 35' 3. She finished FOURTH in regionals, losing third on a tiebreaker. She won sectionals with a new PR of 35' 8.5. She fouled on one jump at State and all of the others were 36' 10 or longer. Four were 37' 3 or longer, meaning all five of her marked jumps were at least a foot longer than her previous best, four were at least a foot and a half longer and the winning jump was over two feet longer.
