2013 WIAA TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS: 100m HH And 300m LH Events
Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1, 2013: Veterans Memorial Field @ UW-La Crosse. Results D1 D2 D3 WC
The 300m LH race produces many surprises for the athletes, fans, and photographers. With two hurdles left Holly Denfeld [#5, Edgar], Karina Elford [Markesan], Hannah Cassel [#4, Shell Lake], and Sarah Gilles [#3, Elmwood-Plum City] eye the finish 50m away. Denfeld finished 4th, Elford was 3rd, Cassel was 2nd, and Gilles 5th. Coleman's Hope Process [above center] was 6th in the 300m LH.
Haley Hazlett from Wild Rose [above right] won the Gold Medal with a time of 46.83. Shell Lake's Hannah Cassel was also timed in 46. 83 but Hazlett had a 46.825 to Cassel's 46.827.
Senior Valerie Thames from the Milwaukee Riverside 'Tigers' broke a long standing record when she posted a time of 43.04 in the D1 300m LH race. The old record of 43.46 was set in 1997 by Angie Bruecker [she is now the head womens coach at Indiana State] from Seymour.
Kenosha Tremper teammates ToNaya Gulley [above left] and Danielle Riggins [above center and right] are both juniors. Gulley's time of 14.43 was close behind Riggin's winning time of 14.23. Tremper only had three athletes in the girls meet. Gulley and Riggins in the sprints and hurdles were joined by senior Brittney Feivor [distance races] in helping Tremper win the D1 Team Championship with 48 points. Tremper edged Waukesha West who scored 46 points.
