18th FASST Senior All-Star Track Meet

University of Dubuque head coach Chad Gunnelson and his staff and team hosted the 18th annual Senior Spotlight Meet at Chalmers Field on the campus of the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa. This was the first year that team scores were kept and the Badgers from Wisconsin won both the boys and girls part of the meet. Despite temperatures in the high 90's athletes performed well and a number of records were set at this years meet.

Team Iowa's Aleenah Marucci [#5] blazed to a 14.08 to win the 100m HH event. Jefferson's Mikaela Grant had a season best [would also be the best on All-Division HR] time of 14.53 to finish 2nd. Middleton's Lauren Reagan Smith [#7] was 4th [also a season best for her] in 14.74.

The meet has events that are standard in Iowa. The Low Hurdle race is a 400m race. Mikaela Grant [#3, Jefferson, 1:07.68] was first followed by Sophia Hoelz [#2. Living Word Lutheran], and Sydney Rossow [#3, Kettle Moraine Lutheran].

Team Wisconsin set a 1600m Sprint Medley relay record with a time of 4:06.27. This broke the record of 4:06.59 set by Team Wisconsin in 2013. The 4x100m Shuttle HH Relay is a part of the Iowa track and field meet event schedule. Team Iowa set a new record of 1:00.50 breaking the 1:02.91 record set by Team Iowa in 2009. Team Iowa hurdler Maggi Bjustrom is shown above right.
Team Wisconsin posted the fastest time ever for a Team Wisconsin Shuttle Relay team by finishing 2nd in 1:01.79 [this also broke the old record]. Team Wisconsin hurdlers above L-R: Sydney Rossow and Mikaela Grant.

Tony's jump in the boys part of the meet was too good not to mention. He set a new record by surpassing Team Iowa's Jerry Westerfield who jumped 24' 04.50 in 2012. Tate soared 24' 08.50 to rewrite the record book. Brookfield East's Drew Bullen and Franklin's Tri Pham both jumped 23' 04 at the Spotlight Meet in finishing 3rd and 4th.

Above left: Team Iowa's Kiana Phelps who is ranked #3 in the nation in the discus broke the Senior FASST All-Star Spotlight Meet record in the discus with a throw of 172' 07. This broke the old record of 166' 10 set in 2014 by Team Wisconsin's Kennedy Blahnik from Algoma. Phelps was a 4 time Drake Relays High School Discus Champion in addition to being the four time Iowa State Champion. She will compete for the University of Oregon.
