Previously, Kjelland taught 4th grade and coached at Prescott for 7 years. He was an assistant track coach there for three years and the boys head coach in his last 3 years there. He also coached track at River Falls High school as an assistant for 2 years. He was a Girls basketball assistant coach at Prescott for three years and the girls head coach for my last 3 years, and also a football assistant for all 7 years, with the last 6 being the offensive coordinator. Also he previously coached FB at River Falls as an assistant for 3 seasons.

Coach Kjelland was influenced greatly by the philosophy of Steve Stocker former UW-River Falls track and field standout and former coach at River Falls High School.

Kjelland's workouts follow General [70-75% effort], specific [80-85% effort] and competition [90-95% effort] days during 12 weeks of the season.

The boys basketball team was preparing for a sectional game in the main gym. The track and field athletes met in the elementary school gym before a 5 minute warmup run in the halls. Then Coach Kjelland led the team in their footwork and agility drills.
