Special Thanks To Craig Shepard And His Wife Sharon

Craig Shepard retired in the summer of 2013 after 34 years as the Head Coach at Gilman High School. He has served WISTCA as the District I Rep from 1992-96, Historian 1996-2017 and Awards Chair 2005-2017.

Craig will now retire from his WISTCA positions. He and his wife Sharon [above left] have been a team in planning the Hall Of Fame ceremonies. Their work in making the Hall Of Fame ceremony a success has been greatly appreciated by inductees, coaches, and fans of track and field.

2011: Dezerea Bryant set a D1 100m dash record with a time of 11.38. Medalists [L-R] Demetra Camble [6th, Milwaukee Riverside], Chidera Obasih [4th, Brookfield Central], Tahje Whitley [2nd, Milwaukee Bradley Technical], Bryant, Heather Bong [3rd, Arrowhead], and Kat Keller [5th, New Richmond] applaud as the new record is announced.

Bryant held the previous record of 10.50 which she set in 2010. At the 2009 State Meet Bryant and Tasha Allen [Milwaukee North] posted times of 11.76 in the prelims which broke the 100m record of 11.84 set by Diane Lemmitt of Madison West in 1981.

2011 200m finals: Dezerea Bryant [above left and center in the 200m finals and above right on the podium] set the 200m record with a time of 23.01. Chidera Obasih [above left, blue jersey #4] was 3rd. Obasih had held the 200m record of 23.85 which she set in the prelims of the 2009 WIAA State Meet until Bryant broke that record with a 24.37 at the 2010 State Meet. Also shown is Milwaukee Riverside's Demetra Camble [above left, 5th].



2010: Seymour's Jessica Maroszek set a D1 SP record with a best throw of 49' 04.25. Maroszek is shown on the podium with [L-R] Alissa Rausch [5th, Wausau West], Tina DeLakis [3rd, Eau Claire Memorial], Maroszek, Angela Boushea [2nd, Monona Grove], Marissa Theys [4th, Green Bay East, and Jamie Lindstrom [6th, Hudson]. Maroszek completed a sweep in the 2010 D1 throws by also winning the Gold Medal in the discus with a distance of 157' 04.

Maroszek's record throw beat the old D1 record of 46' 03.50 set by Heidi Baerenwald from Appleton East at the 2008 State Meet. Maroszek finished 2nd with a throw of 44' 10.50 to Baerenwald at the 2008 State Meet.

2008: Jamie Vandenberg 400m record [57.61], Bria Halama [L, 3rd, Independnce-Gilmanton], and Gretchen Homan [R, 2nd, Catholic Central].

Vandenberg was also the 400m Dash D3 State Champion in 2006 [57.43] and 2007 [58.61].

The first Girls State Meet was held in 1971 at Appleton East High School. After the 1972 State Meet the Girls State Meet was moved to Merrill High School and then to Monona Grove High School in 1974-75. From 1976-1989 the Girls State Meet was held in conjunction with the Boys State Meet at Mansfield Stadium on the campus of Madison Memorial High School. The meet moved to La Crosse in 1990.

*HOF Fame Inductee Dezerea Bryant was competing in the Millrose Games and was unable to attend the HOF Induction . Her youth coach Ray Hale [above left] from the Milwaukee Mustangs Track and Field Club represented Dezerea and told about her work ethic which led to her success.
