If you are ever lost when looking for a track meet just look for runners in the area. Distance runners can be found getting 'warmed up' by running local neighborhoods near the site of a track meet. Just follow the runners to the site.
For an early season meet the 4x8 relay event which began the Nelson - Daniel Classic meet demonstrated how competitive the meet would be. Niles West [Illinois] took an early lead in the 4x8 and held that lead until the last 1/2 lap. Anchor Karlye Wolff of Waukesha West took the baton behind but made her move on the backstretch of UW-Whitewater's 200m indoor track. Coming off the last turn she accelerated and helped the Waukesha West team set a meet record of 10:01.31. This broke the record set by Wauwatosa West [ 10:04.06] in last years meet.
Runners for the Wolverines were [L-R] leadoff runner Jessica Laurin, Erica Claas, Ashley Vonck and anchor Karlye Wolff. At the 2006 State Meet West finished in second place in the 4x8 relay event.
Charde Mayne [far left] a sophomore at Milwaukee Riverside won the LJ [17 04.50]. Tiffany Jones [left] of Madison Memorial was second [16' 04.00]. Shalesa Smith [right] of Milwaukee King was third [16' 00.50]. Smith won the triple jump [34' 06.25]
Junior Abby Mayer from Janesville Craig won the pole vault with a vault of 10' 06.00.
Janesville Parker sophomore Shelby Demos [L] won the high jump [ 5' 04.00]. Hartland Arrowhead teammates in the shot put [Above L-R]: Lindsey Haller [ 3rd, 35' 01.50] and Jackie Pasholk [ 1st 38' 01.50].
