Junior Becca Buchholtz of East Troy established a new D2 high jump record by clearing 5' 09.00. She is shown [above left] breaking the record. The flexibility and quick leg action needed by high jumpers is pictured above right as Buchholtz clears the bar in an earlier jump. At 5' 10.00 Buchholtz was very close to clearing the bar on her second attempt.
The previous record of 5' 07.00 was set by Megan Plourde of Somerset at the 2005 State Meet. Plourde equaled her record by jumping 5' 07.00 to place second to Buchholtz. Plourde is also a junior and is pictured below attempting 5' 08.00. |

Above left: Whitewater senior Holly Mathews vaulted 11' 03 to win the D3 pole vault gold medal.
The pole vault competition was moved indoors on Friday after heavy rains and high winds stopped outside competition. The event remained indoors for the D2 and D3 competition on Saturday.
Above: Triple jump [L-R] Sara Poppe a senior at Kettle Moraine Lutheran was the third place finisher [36' 02.25], champion Becca Buchholtz [37' 00.25] from East Troy and second place medalist Maya Vazquez a ninth grader from Arcadia [36' 07.50]. |

The Honor Roll visited a preseason practice at Hudson early in March. One person who stood out was a taller athlete whose footwork was skilled and quick. Three months later that athlete won the D1 pole vault championship with a vault of 11' 03.00.
Senior Alex Johnson was one of the Hudson athletes who helped Coach Jamie Holum's team win the D1 team championship. Johnson is pictured in the 'speed skater' drill during the preseason and clearing 11' 00.00 after competition was moved indoors on Friday because of weather that made vaulting dangerous. |

D1 Long Jump: [L-R] Andrea Fenderson a junior from Racine Park [5th, 17' 05.50], Wausau West senior Kristi Konsella [3rd, 17' 06.25], champion Emily Worden a sophomore from La Crosse Logan [18' 10.00], Lindsay Bangert a senior from Homestead [2nd, 17' 08.00], junior Linda Rausch from West Bend East [3rd, 17' 06.25], and Emily Betz a junior from La Crosse Logan [6th, 17' 05.25]. Emily Worden was seeded 21 out of 24 jumpers [based on sectional jumps] but had a 19' 01.25 jump at Stoughton on May 5th. In trials her first jump was less than 14 feet as her timing was off. On her second jump she went 18' 06.00. On her last jump in trials she had a 'monster jump' that was a foul. In finals she fouled on her first two attempts but then went 18' 10.00 on her last jump.

The Honor Roll makes every attempt to get photographs of as many athletes as possible. However a State Meet presents many obstacles to this goal. The size of the meet with many events occuring at the same time prevent all inclusive picture coverage of the meet. One athlete who was not pictured in action was D1 triple jump champion Julie Hebert who is a junior at Greenfield. The picture on the left was taken at the Waukesha Catholic Memorial Crusader Invitational earlier in the season. However the Honor Roll did manage to catch Hebert in some other action [right] as she took a picture of a teammate prior to Saturdays long jump competition.

Above left: Senior Kate Flood from Delavan Darien won the D1 high jump competition with a jump of 5' 05.00. Junior Jennifer Lehman [above right] from Waukesha South also jumped 5' 05.00 but lost a jump off to Flood. Each jumper has a different routine preceeding their approach and launch for the jump. A heavy rain kept meet workers busy trying to keep the launch points clear of pools of water. Lehman also competed in the 300m LH and long jump events.
