Marcy Thurwachter, Assistant Director of the WIAA, oversees track and field and is the driving force behind producing a first class experience for the student-athletes competing in the meet. Over 300 volunteers staff the State Meet in which over 2000 athletes had the experience of competing against the top track and field athletes in Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin media has come to recognize the importance of the meet and extensive coverage is given to the two day event. Radio, television, and newspapers relayed news about their hometown area athletes and their accomplishments after interviewing the athletes. The pictures below show AP photo editors sending pictures to newspapers around the state, reporters racing to file a deadline, and TV technicians editing highlights of the meet for the night time sports report.
