Fourteen teams competed at the Blue Jay Invite. Although cool the sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 50's were a welcome sight to track fans and athletes. Edgerton won the meet with 88 points while Sugar River and Evansville tied for second with 75 points. Jefferson narrowly beat out host Cambridge 62-61 for fourth place.

Despite fouling on her first two throws [ no trials, four throws in finals] and suffering an ankle injury which limited her ability to use a spin move Cambridge's Shania Guilder the defending D2 Champion in the discus competed well in the Blue Jay Invite.
After two fouls and an 86' throw on her third attempt she unleashed a great early season throw on her last attempt. That throw traveled 120' 11. Guilder also won the shot put [35' 05]. Stephanie Tweed [below right] from Marshall was second with a throw of 103' 01. Jessica Putland from Sugar River was thrid [92' 06]. Albany discus athlete Hillary Best [below center] was fourth. WSD athletes must take their cue for the start by looking at the starter and watching for the smoke from the gun or at a coach for a signal. Carlos Desarden [WSD, above red jersey] and Beloit Turner sprinter Nolan Byrom are pictured at the start of the 100m finals. Desarden was only a hair slow in his start in the race that Byrom won in 10.94 [HHT]. Desarden was 7th in 11.91 [HHT]. |

Richelle Ranney [above and right] from Palymra Eagle won the high jump [5' 01].
Syvia Gay from Evansville and Sam Jacobson from Cambridge tied for second with Jacobson winning the jump-off. Lauren Carpenter of Cambridge is pictured below.
