Watertown Indoor Invitational

Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Watertown High School's Field House: Results

Clerk of course Josh Heier [above] prepares the athletes for competition in the 4x8 relay. Ten teams competed at the Watertown meet that began at 10 in the morning. Fond du Lac outpointed host Watertown 119 to 102.50 to win the meet. Kettle Moraine was third while Mayville and Oshkosh West tied for fourth.

The Fond du Lac Cardinals won the 4x8. Team members were [L-R below]: Elise Drewson, Jenna Goeble, Wadea Mohr and anchor Marki Klapperich.

Above and right 55m finals start: Watertown's Alyssa Harmes [lane 3] won the 55m dash in 7.78. Teammate Jodi Bellas [lane 2] was second while Kettle Moraine's Kinza Hagerup [lane 1] was third.

Left: Senior Angelica Balderas from Mayville won the 400m dash event. Balderas placed sixth in the D2 400m event at the 2008 State Meet. Above center and right: 400m Dash heats.

Left: Molly Seidel [left and above] a ninth grader from University Lake School won the 1600m and 3200m events at the Watertown Indoor Invitational. Seidel who was the D3 Cross Country Champion in 2008 posted times of 5:35.57 and 11:46.83 in winning the distance events at Watertown. University Lake school is located near Hartland.

Watertown's 4x160 relay team set a Field House record in that event by beating the record that the same team set during the 2008 season. Leadoff runner Alyssa Harmes is pictured below left while third runner Jodi Bellas is pictured below handing off to anchor Maddie Emme.

Above: Sami Haas is a junior from D2 Waupun who was a State Meet qualifier in the PV at the 2008 meet. She finished second at Watertown. Haas had a busy day at Watertown as she finished 5th in the LJ and 1st in the HJ [5' 01, shown below left on approach and below clearing the bar] as well as qualifying for the finals of the 55m dash.

The 'magic pencil' [below left] follows one of the athletes from meet to meet. Are athletes superstitious?

[below, cardinal colored jersey] from Fond du Lac was second in the HJ.

Below L-R: Long jump winner Alyssa Harmes of Watertown and second place long jump athlete Jasmin Bednar from Mayville. Both jumpers had a best jump of 15' 11.50 but Harmes had a better 'second best' jump.

A track meet takes quite a bit of organization and help. Watertown lis lucky to have the talent of Chris Mertens who produces a web site for the Watertown track team.
